The Story of the Liberated Bicycles

I managed to buy a pretty good bicycle for 30 sheq (about $10).

Well, that was the cost of the pliers I used to liberate my new bike. They are great pliers, with comfortable handles and a lot of heft.

At this point, my honest listeners, you are probably wondering if theft was involved in the procurement of my wheels. Well, lets just say that where I live, I noticed that there were many bicycles in all states of disrepair. I pointed out to the guard that there are perhaps more bicycles than there are owners of them and he agreed. Then, just to cover all my bases, I casually mentioned this to the director of the building.

He said that it was an interesting and difficult question... and that perhaps I had the answer. He wasn't going to say to do it, or not to.

So I liberated the bicycle, fixed it up, and bought a bigger lock.

  1. Perhaps you can ride it and look for the two or was it three bikes that were yours that someone else apparently applied the same principle too...
